How professional yacht delivery works

Professional yacht delivery usually begins with an initial assessment. The owner or operator provides the yacht type, length, current location, intended destination, preferred timing and relevant information about the vessel’s condition.

The delivery team reviews those details to decide whether the yacht and proposed route can be assessed further. Questions about access, equipment, maintenance, crew needs or timing may be raised before a quotation is prepared.

A formal quotation and delivery agreement set out the professional fee, the expected scope and the treatment of voyage expenses. The final route and timing remain subject to the information available, conditions and the agreed delivery arrangements.

Before departure, the owner confirms the documentation required for the yacht and the intended passage. The owner must also confirm that the appointed skipper, crew, route and intended delivery are accepted under the vessel’s insurance policy.

A pre-departure inspection records the yacht’s apparent condition and checks the equipment relevant to the planned passage. Any preparation or outstanding issue that affects acceptance of the delivery is discussed before departure.

During the passage, progress communication follows the agreed arrangements. Operational and safety decisions remain with the skipper, and the plan may be adjusted when conditions or the yacht require it.

At arrival, the yacht is inspected again and handed over to the agreed recipient. The handover records the completion of the passage and any observations that need to be communicated.
